Georgia Ports Authority was set up in 1945-now operates 4 ports / facilities and has about 1,000 employees.  Container traffic is up to 3 million TEUs in 2012 with a constant growth pattern – the largest container port on East Coast and second in USA only to Los Angeles.  Importantly the ratio of export to import containers is 53% to 47% which means  a good balance in reuse of containers in and out.

Brunswick : Colonel’s Island is booming with import of cars 64,000 pa.  Mercedes, VW, BMW, Porsche,  Maserati.

Bainbridge : Fertilizer and Inland terminal.

Columbus : Fuel distribution facility

Codele : Intermodal facility – privately owned but served by shuttle train twice/week shortly to go to three times.

Harbour Deepening Project occupies Jamie’s time these days                   $652 million       awaiting the Water Resource Development Act in Congress to be voted in September.  GPA is ready and signs are hopeful.
